That burn in you like wildfire
Watch the smoke get higher
I know nobody understands
This isn’t how you planned
But it’s not always in our hands
Sometimes it comes down to chance
Whatever happens is happenstance
It only ends when we say we can’t
We're always waiting for someday
Like an airliner parked on the runway
Time is a street that goes one way
Stuck between now and someday
Do you remember who we were?
A clumsy boy, a curious girl
Ready to take on the world
But some things we can’t forget
All laden with regret
And there is no button to reset
Be your most beautiful self
Never mind everybody else
And the stupid things they said
We're always waiting for someday
Like an airliner parked on the runway
Time is a street that goes one way
Somewhere between now and someday
Who did you once want to be?
In your mind’s eye, what do you see?
And how does it hold up to reality?
Our dreams get tangled in the sheets
Always competing, never complete
Failures it seems we’re destined to repeat
When you look yourself in the eyes
Do you ever recognize?
Oh, don’t look so surprised
We're always waiting for someday
Like an airliner parked on the runway
Time is a street that goes one way
Trapped between now and someday
The world is changing every day
No matter what they say
We can still find a way
To turn this runaway train around
Before they burn it all to the ground
These falling trees don’t make a sound
Hope sometimes is all we’ve got
I know it’s not a lot
Anticipating the other shoe to drop
We're always waiting for someday
Like an airliner parked on the runway
Time is a street that goes one way
Lost between now and someday
