Wasted

We all need something to fill the emptiness

A temporary substitute for happiness

It keeps you warm and safe like a security blanket

But then it only leaves you feeling vacant

It's not what you anticipated

I know, it's always complicated

But everyone would be so devastated

Another day, another night, another life is wasted

Life is hardly ever like we'd like it to be

You need a nightly reprieve from the entropy

Slip into another self-induced haze

Keep slipping until it slips away

I know it seems to ease the pain

But then, of course, it just comes back again

Like a heavy storm cloud that hovers above you

Raining down on everyone who loves you

It's just an illusory remedy

It's not so easy to erase your memory

See yourself with a clear and healthy mind

You might be surprised by what you find
